I never would have guessed, never never
If you were to guess what artists and albums Steven King (yes, creepy “It,” “Kujo,” “Christine,” “Carrie” Stephen King) liked from this year, what would you guess? You’d probably guess a lot of weird lame things, like Buckcherry and Coldplay, both of whom are artists on the list he composed for Entertainment Weekly, but would you have guessed Girl Talk?
That’s right, Girl Talk, the mash-up whiz, the sample virtuoso, the beat connoisseur, the man who inspires throngs of sweaty hipsters to shake their hips to the beat.
Here’s what he had to say:
4. Feed the Animals, Girl Talk
I’m not going to apologize; I also like DJ Skribble, so deal with it. The continuous version is 53 minutes of musical stream of consciousness featuring who knows how many (possibly illegal) musical snippets: In the first 10 minutes I picked out the Spencer Davis Group, Twisted Sister, Sinéad O’Connor, and Avril Lavigne. This is as dense and allusive as James Joyce’s Ulysses, only you can dance to it.
Perhaps the most intelligent exposition of the appeal of Girl Talk that I’ve ever heard.

“Cool.”
